vinyl-tileAs one of the leading suppliers of  vinyl flooring in Brighton and Sussex, Harmony Carpets is proud to carry both domestic and commercial vinyl flooring from leading manufacturers such Amtico, Karndean, Forbo Nairn, and Armstrong Floors.

Although the first vinyl flooring appeared in 1933, but it wasn’t until a few years after the second world war when industrial vinyl production picked up that it really became a major competitor against the other types of resilient flooring used at the time, such as linoleum.

Despite its success, it was the 1960s that saw further advances in vinyl flooring technology. This was when the first cushioned vinyl floors appeared, becoming a popular choice amongst consumers for their resilience, ease of maintenance, and low cost. Also, for the first time, vinyl flooring could be manufactured to resemble more expensive types of flooring like stone, wood, and concrete.

Commonly, and mistakenly referred to as "Lino" by many people vinyl flooring has remained a consistently popular choice with consumers up to the modern day. Ongoing advances in vinyl flooring technology like slip resistant surfaces and static conductivity have only served to increase the already huge range of applications that it can be used for.

Vinyl flooring essentially comes in three formats, cushioned vinyl, vinyl tile & strip flooring and contract vinyl flooring, which includes safety flooring. Of these, the contract vinyl can be roughly sub-divided into two types; Homogenous and Heterogenous.

Cushioned Vinyl

Cushioned vinyl is primarily suitable for domestic installations (although some vinyls these days approach light contract specification...

Vinyl Tiles & Strip

Vinyl tile and strips products are similar in construction to Heterogenous vinyls, but are more rigid. Tile sizes can vary enormously...

Contract Vinyl

Contract sheet vinyl is broadly available in 2 types of construction, Homogeneous (constituting of the same material/ pattern throughout the...

PUR or not PUR?

You will notice that many vinyl floorcoverings, particularly contract vinyl and vinyl tile and strip flooring, advertise that they feature PUR...

Unnatural Flooring

For customers who want the look of Sisal flooring, but need it to be fitted in an area or environment where Sisal itself would be inappropriate, the Unnatural Flooring company have just the thing.

Made from woven vinyl, Unnatural Flooring is durable, waterproof, easy to clean and slip resistant. It is suitable for bathrooms, kitchens, gyms, playrooms and conservatories, or anywhere with high traffic areas or where there is risk of damp, water spills or surface water and is really the only true alternative to sisal for wet areas inside or out.

Because it can be easily vacuumed, it can reduce allergies caused by dust mites, and can be washed with a mop and warm water. There is no other product that is this functional and yet gives the designer a sisal styled flooring suitable for most contract and domestic settings.
